Silvikrin Glamour and Lunch at Claridges

If you're going to lunch at Claridges you should always look glamorous, right? So luckily hairstylists and make-up artists were supplied courtesy of Silvikrin at the Glamour-to-Go Silvikrin lunch at Claridges yesterday, ready to work their makeover magic on us.

There was a brilliant buzz in the fantastically stylish French Salon, both from the myriad of hairdryers and all the glamorous lunching ladies who had won their places in the Good Housekeeping competition. Some people had brought their best friend, others their mums or daughters, so there was a great mix of people in the room.

"We got here at 10.30," one of the Silvikrin stylists told me, "and it's been all go all morning. The ladies are really enjoying it!" And so they were, champagne flutes in hand.

Plenty of advice was being dished out during the makeovers - everybody clearly relishing the chance to pick the style brains of the Silvikrin experts. "I love it when somebody else does my makeup," one woman told me. "I always let them try something I wouldn't normally go for; it's a great way to get ideas and try things you might never do yourself."

My lunch companion confided that she enters competitions all the time and wins prizes regularly, most recently a holiday to Vietnam as well as this lunch. So - good tip girls - if you enter enough competitions you will eventually win! You never know, you might find yourself lunching in Claridges someday soon.

So, what did we eat? Oh just the usual stuff - beautifully presented tiny cheeses for starters, delectable salmon on a bed of risotto for main, and a month-wateringly good melt-in-the-mouth parfait with while chocolate and raspberry crust for dessert.

As you do on a Tuesday ...
