What to think about when choosing a new foundation...

1. What coverage you'd like

You can think of the coverage a foundation offers by its thickness. ‘Thin', ‘light' or ‘sheer' foundation will let you see your skins natural colour underneath while ‘thick', ‘full' or ‘opaque' foundations will give a heavier coverage.

2. What finish you'd like

The finish of a foundation is how the foundation looks on your skin after it has been applied.

The finish tends to go hand in hand with the coverage

- If you want your skin looking moist and bright look out for words such as ‘Dewy', ‘Radiant' and ‘Luminescent'.

- If want your skin to look as if you're not wearing any foundation and allow some of your natural skin colour to come through out for words such as ‘Natural', ‘Nude' and ‘Sheer' in foundations.

- ‘Matte' or ‘Non-Shiny' foundations mean the tone will look completely even and the finish may look ‘powdered'.

- ‘Thick', ‘Complete', ‘Concealing' or ‘Opaque' foundations generally mean the skin tone cannot be seen and blemishes are concealed.

3. The type of foundation

There are even different types of textures now to look out for such as Liquids, Crèmes, Minerals or Mousses so it's worth trying something new out.

4. The right colour

The best place to test the right shade of foundation is on your jaw line. The shade that completely disappears into the skin is the ‘right' foundation shade.

Always apply foundation over moisturised skin otherwise the results can be patchy and disappointing.
